Refund and Returns Policy

1. Nature of the Donation

By donating your vehicle to Legacy Ministries, you understand that you are making an irrevocable charitable contribution. Once the vehicle has been picked up by our towing agent and the title has been signed over, the donation is considered complete and cannot be reversed.

2. Cancellation Policy

  • Before Pickup: You may cancel your donation at any time prior to the vehicle being towed. To cancel, please call us at 313-765-3587 at least 24 hours before your scheduled pickup time.

  • After Pickup: Once the vehicle is in the possession of our towing partner, we take full responsibility for the unit. At this stage, the vehicle enters our processing and sale pipeline, and we cannot return the vehicle to the donor.

3. Refund of Cash Donations

If you have made a cash donation to the ministry in error (e.g., incorrect amount or accidental duplicate transaction):

  • Request Window: Refund requests must be made in writing within 30 days of the donation date.

  • Method of Refund: Approved refunds will be credited back to the original method of payment (credit card, etc.).

  • Tax Deductions: If you have already filed a tax return claiming a deduction for the gift, you are responsible for amending your filing if a refund is issued.

4. Vehicle Condition & Acceptance

  • Right of Refusal: We reserve the right to decline a vehicle if the cost of towing exceeds the scrap or auction value of the car.

  • No Value Guarantee: While we strive to maximize your tax write-off, Legacy Ministries does not guarantee a specific sale price at auction. Your deduction is based on the final gross proceeds of the sale as reported on IRS Form 1098-C.

5. Title and Liability

Donors are responsible for all fines, tickets, and fees incurred on the vehicle prior to the time of pickup. To release yourself from future liability, you must sign the title at the time of donation and notify the Michigan Secretary of State that the vehicle has been donated.
